Detailing business guide

Build detailing packages that lead to a clearer price list.

A price list is most useful when it gives customers a clear starting point without pretending every vehicle needs the same work. Start with repeatable packages, then make the final quote fit the job.

Build packages around repeatable work.

A package should describe an outcome you perform regularly, not a vague promise to clean everything. Examples might include an interior detail, exterior detail, full detail, maintenance detail, paint correction, or ceramic coating. Keep the list short enough that you can explain the included work, expected result, and normal time requirement for every option.

For each service, record the normal labor time, materials, preparation time, and a sensible profit buffer. These inputs make a price list easier to maintain because a change to your costs or workflow has a visible effect on the starting rate.

Show starting rates, then state the assumptions.

Choose a reference vehicle such as a sedan, then adjust the starting rate for an SUV, truck, or another larger vehicle based on the additional work you normally see. A public price list should also state what the rate assumes: a standard condition, normal access, and the defined package scope.

Use the car detailing price list builder to create a starting list from DetailProfit's service templates and the same underlying pricing logic. It gives potential customers a useful range while keeping your own time and cost assumptions visible to you.

Do not hide condition inside the package.

Pet hair, odor, heavy soil, stains, excessive items, difficult paint condition, and extra seating can change the job. Keep these as condition or add-on decisions rather than silently absorbing them into a standard package. Our travel fees and surcharges guide explains a clear approval path for that situation.

Turn the starting rate into a specific job quote.

Once a customer asks about a specific vehicle, use the mobile detailing pricing calculator to include the actual service time, condition, travel, materials, and add-ons. Then put the confirmed total into the quote builder with the service, vehicle, validity, and terms.

A starting price list creates clarity. A specific quote protects both the customer and your schedule.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How many detailing packages should I offer?

Start with a small set of services you can describe and deliver consistently. A focused list is easier to price, explain, and improve than many overlapping packages.

Should my price list show one price for every vehicle?

A starting price can be useful, but vehicle size and condition can change the time and materials required. Make clear what the starting rate assumes and when a specific quote is needed.

Can I use the same price list for mobile detailing?

Use the price list as a base for standard services, then add the actual travel, access, vehicle condition, and requested add-ons when preparing a specific mobile appointment quote.
